Iceland Full Year 2012: Toyota Yaris #1 for first time since 2008

The Icelandic new car market is up an impressive 55% year-on-year in 2012 to 8,486 registrations, still far off the record 20,875 cars registered back in 2005For the first time since 2008 and the 5th year overall, the Toyota Yaris is the most popular model in Iceland thanks to sales up a huge 144% on 2011 to 523 units and 6.2%, boosted by the new generation of the model and its hybrid version. Leader in 2011, the Skoda Octavia is down one spot but up 57% to #2 at 495 units and 5.8%. The VW Polo is also down one rank to #3 with 354 sales and 4.2%.

Exceptional performance of the Kia Cee’d, leader in December, up 12 spots and 196% to finish the year at #4 with 281 units and 3.3%. Within the Top 10, notice also the VW Golf up 67% to #6, the Nissan Qashqai up 115% to #7 and the VW Passat up 63% to #8. Other great performers this year include the Kia Rio up from outside the Top 80 to #11, the Ford Kuga up 169% to #13, VW Tiguan up 813% to #16, Suzuki Jimny up 275% to #17, Renault Megane up 208% to #20, VW Caddy up 188% to #23, Kia Picanto up 553% to #27 and Mitsubishi Pajero up 542% to #32.
