Canada September 2012: Honda Civic and Hyundai Elantra shine

If in the USA pick-up trucks are back in fashion this month, in neighbouring Canada they are taking a beating. For only the second time this year, the Ford F-Series is down year-on-year at -3% to a still outstanding 9,712 units. Year-to-date, the F-Series is up 13% on 2011 to 84,074 sales and still on track to be the first vehicle to ever sell over 100,000 units in one year in Canada… The Honda Civic stays in 2nd place for the third time this year after January and August with 5,782 sales, up 22% year-on-year. It is however still #3 year-to-date at 48,194 units vs. 53,237 for the Dodge Ram, #3 this month at 5,722 sales (-7%).
The Hyundai Elantra is up 40% year-on-year and 2 spots on August to #4, its highest ranking since last April, at 5,221 units. It is followed by the Ford Escape stuck at an excellent 5th place with 4,491 sales and the Mazda3 up one spot on last month and 38% year-on-year to #6 and 4,278 units. Notice also the Dodge Journey up 48% to #12, Toyota RAV4 up 101% to #13, BMW 3 Series up 13 spots and 51% to #22, Nissan Versa up 14 to #29, Ford Explorer up 6 to #33, Toyota Tacoma up 8 to #37 and GMC Acadia up 23 to #51 vs. #82 year-to-date.
Further down, the Dodge Dart is up 19 ranks to #63 with 606 sales (vs. #65 in the US), the Lexus ES up 166% to #81, the Subaru XV Crosstrek up 35 spots to #89 at 419 units for its 2nd month of sales in Canada, the Chevrolet Volt up 28 to #119 and the Ford C-Max making its very first appearance in the Canadian models ranking with 5 units sold this month.
