Italy is one of the last countries in the world with Sweden and Slovakia where Station Wagons (SW) have remained highly popular which is why there is a monthly update about it on BSCB. However like in May this month it is not entirely true. In an overall market down a worrying 24%, SW sales are down a devastating 37% year-on-year to 9,923 registrations, bringing the SW market share in Italy to 7.7%, down from 9.2% a year ago.
A lot of change in the SW models ranking: after leading in March and April, the Opel Astra, 2011′s best-seller, comes back to pole position in the category this month with 1,172 sales and a solid 66% Station Wagon ratio (sw%), meaning 2/3 of all Astras sold in Italy this month are Station Wagons. The Ford Focus stays however #1 year-to-date at 8,013 units vs. 7,402 for the Astra. The Renault Megane also excels, up 4 spots on last month to #2 at 963 units and 63 sw%.
The best sw ratios are reached this month by the Audi A4 at 91% in 3rd place overall, the VW Passat at 87% and #5 and the Peugeot 508 at 86% and #6. Notice the Audi A6 back in the Top 10 for the first time since last January with 388 sales and an excellent 81% sw ratio.
