The South African car market is up a healthy 11% in July at 45,703 registrations, with the year-to-date total coming at 318,649 units, up 15%. The VW Polo Vivo is #1 for the second month in a row with 3,142 sales and 6.9% of the market, its highest share since July 2010! Its margin over the Toyota Hilux, #2 this month, is such that it is now seriously threatening the Hilux for the #1 spot in 2011, with 19,542 sales and 6.1% vs. 19,698 and 6.2% for the Hilux.
The VW Polo (4.6%), Opel Corsa Utility (3.5%) and Toyota Corolla/Auris (3.2%) are all above their 2011 level and the Mercedes C Class continue to progress, up 1 spot on June to 6th place at a very robust 3.1% share. The Renault Sandero maintains itself at a shiny #12 and the VW Amarok hits its highest position in South Africa yet at #14 with 696 sales and 1.5%.
