South Africa June 2011: VW Polo Vivo reclaims top spot
South African car sales continue on their good run, up 13% in June at 44,880 registrations, bringing the half-year figure to 272,685 units, up 16%. The VW Polo Vivo, a restyled previous generation of the model, is back in the lead for the first time since January this year and for the 4th time in the last 12 months with an excellent 2,933 sales and 6.5% share.
The Polo Vivo is still #2 year-to-date at 16,400 units and 6%, behind the Toyota Hilux with 17,179 sales and 6.3%. The VW Polo new generation stays strong in 3rd place with 2,097 sales and 4.7%, helped by the arrival of the sedan version. The Toyota Corolla/Auris is back in shape at #4 followed by a very solid Ford Figo ranking 5th again and improving its share to 3.3%.
Other good performers include the BMW 3 Series at #8, the Renault Sandero up to #12 and the VW Amarok up to #21.
