Huge event this year in the Netherlands: after at least 20 years of domination by an Opel model – Kadett then Astra, in 2001 the best-selling car in the country is the VW Golf! At 25,290 sales it holds 4.8% of the market whereas the Opel Astra is at only 21,809 units and 4.1%, even dropping to #3 behind the Peugeot 206 at 22,294 sales and 4.2%!
The Ford Focus falls to #4 but stays strong at 3.7% share, and it is followed by the Opel Corsa at 3% and the Opel Zafira at 2.8%. This way Opel keeps the brands leadership it has held for over 20 years in the country… The best-selling Japanese model is the Toyota Yaris, down 1 spot to #12, and the best-selling Korean is the Hyundai Atos, down 3 spots to #29.
