Gulf June 2013: Toyota Hilux and Hyundai Elantra in charge
The Hyundai Elantra is the best-selling passenger car in the Gulf region this month.

The Gulf Cooperation Council is composed of the sates bordering the Persian Gulf: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Oman. In June, new car sales in the region are down slightly year-on-year at -0.5% to 125,382 registrations, adding up to 777,473 year-to-date, up a robust 7% on 2012. Toyota dominates the brands sales charts head and shoulders with 48,808 sales and 38.9% share in June and 310,761 and a round 40% year-to-date, followed at a distance by Hyundai at 13.7% in both rankings and Nissan at 9%. Ford is up to #4 this month thanks to 5.9% share vs. 4.9% year-to-date, passing Kia (5.1%) while Chevrolet is stable at #6 and 4.3% and GMC breaks into the Top 10 at 2.1% share. Lexus is #11, BMW #12, Audi #18. Note Renault, Mercedes and Chinese manufacturers data is unavailable.
The Toyota Hilux is #1 so far this year the region.
Model-wise, the Toyota Hilux consolidates its domination this month thanks to 9,281 sales and 7.4%, very close to the 7.6% share it holds year-to-date. The big event is the arrival of the Hyundai Elantra in 2nd place overall and most significantly first place among passenger cars with 6,510 units and 5.2% share, up from #5 year-to-date and a full percentage point above its 2013 share, mainly thanks to its pole position in Saudi Arabia. The Toyota Corolla is kicked down to third place but is very close at 6,452 sales and 5.1% while the Toyota Prado remains #4 at 4.5%. The Toyota Camry takes advantage of a weak month from the Land Cruiser to climb to #5.
The Ford Taurus is up to #21 in the region this month.
Further down, notable gainers include the Ford Expedition up to #12 vs. #21 year-to-date, the Toyota Sequoia up to #20 vs. #34, Ford Taurus up to #21 vs. #31, Ford F-Series up to #31 vs. #55, Mazda6 up to #40 vs. #59, Jeep Grand Cherokee up to #44 vs. #61 and the BMW X5 breaking into the Top 50 at #50 vs. #70 so far in 2013.
