Canada January 2013: Hyundai Elantra on podium for the first time in 18 months

Like over the Full year 2012, two pick-up trucks dominate the Canadian models ranking in January 2013: the Ford F-Series leads the way as usual with 7,212 sales, up 10% year-on-year, ahead of the Chevrolet Silverado at 5,490 units, up 23% on January 2012. Also up 23% year-on-year, the Hyundai Elantra makes its first appearance on the Canadian podium since August 2011 at #3 and 2,956 sales, it also ranks #1 Passenger Car above the Honda Civic for the first time since last February. The Dodge Grand Caravan is back up 3 spots on December to #4 albeit down 22% year-on-year while the Ford Escape remains #5.

Other great performers this month in Canada include the Dodge Journey up 4 ranks to #11, the Hyundai Santa Fe robust again at #13, Ford Fusion up 84% year-on-year to #17, Honda Accord up 147% to #20 and the GMC Terrain up to #24 vs. #35 over the Full Year 2012. Jeep has an outstanding month: the Grand Cherokee is up 18 spots on December to #23, the Compass is up a huge 63 ranks to #26 and the Patriot is up 44 to #33.

Further down, the Chrysler Town & Country is up 75 spots to #42, the Mitsubishi RVR (aka ASX) up 27 to #45, Dodge Dart down 26 to #59, Dodge Avenger up 31 to #62, Subaru XV Crosstrek up 11 to #65, the Chevrolet Trax is up 115 ranks to #87 for its first full month in market, the Ford C-Max up 45 to #115, Cadillac ATS up 29 to #133 while the Buick Encore sells its very first unit in the country this month.

    Portuguese new car sales still sinking and previsions for the new year are all but encouraging. The country is due to bankruptcy and the winds are too bad wich obviously reflects in new car sales. About 80% of new cars are sold by company fleets, rent a car and by the State/Political. In a country with 11 millions inhabitants few new cars are sold.
    New car sales in Januray 2013 drooped about 20% regarding the same period of 2012.
