Australia Full Year 2010: Commodore #1 for 15th year in a row

The Australian market gains 11% in 2010 at 1,035,574 registrations, the second highest figure ever after 2007′s 1,049,982 units. The Holden Commodore is the best selling car in the country, as it has been since 1996, with 45,956 sales (+4%) and 4.4%, the nameplate’s lowest ever year-end market share. The Commodore was #1 9 times this year, peaking at 5.1% in October.

The Toyota Corolla stays #2 with 41,632 sales (+7%) and 4%. Relatively weak most of the year (it even dropped to #4 overall), it had a brilliant last 2 months and was #1 in both November & December when it reached 5.7%, its best share in Australia since July 2006. It is followed by the Toyota Hilux at 3.9% (it was #1 in April) and the Mazda3, which at 3.8% is the only model in the Top 4 not to lose share.

VW Golf

Another excellent year for the Hyundai i30, up 39% to #5 with 29,772 sales and 2.9% share, peaking at a best-ever #3 and 3.9% in March. It kicks the Ford Falcon out of the year-end Top 5 for the first time in the 50 year history of the nameplate in Australia… The Holden Cruze is the only newbie in the Top 10 at a brilliant 7th place for its first full year with 28,334 sales (2.7%) while the VW Golf breaks into the monthly Australian Top 10 for the first time in June, the biggest month of the year, at #9 with 2,527 sales and 2.3%. It is up 9 spots to #15 over the Full Year.

Great Wall X240

For its first full year in the country, Chinese brand Great Wall sells 6,690 units for a 0.6% market share, up 251% on 2009 and placing it #16 brand in Australia, already ahead of Volvo, Peugeot, Lexus and Jeep… Model-wise, the Great Wall X240 points at #71 in the Full Year 2010 ranking with 3,270 sales, the Great Wall V240 is #75 with 3,108 units and the SA220, now discontinued, is #171 with 312 sales.
