Switzerland July 2026: Mercedes GLC and Toyota Yaris Cross in the lead

The Toyota Yaris Cross is up to 2nd place in Switzerland in July.

18,994 new cars found a buyer in Switzerland in July, a -3.2% year-on-year drop. Thanks to a good H1, the year-to-date volume remains in positive at +2.1% to 135,542. 4×4 sales defy the negative market and gain 5% year-on-year to 10,382 and 54.7% share vs. 50.4% a year ago. BEV sales soar 20% to 4,899 and 25.8% share vs. 20.8% in July 2025 and PHEVs gain 7.9% to 2,595 and 13.7% share vs. 12.3% a year ago. Year-to-date, BEVs are up 20.2% to 32,788 and 24.2% share vs. 20.6% over the same period in 2025 while PHEVs are up 20.5% to 16,869 and 12.4% share vs. 10.5% last year.

Volkswagen (-0.8%) remains the most popular carmaker in the country at 11.6% share, distancing Skoda (-1.8%) and Mercedes (+4.5%). BMW (-9.7%) struggles at #4 but not as much as Audi (-15.3%). Toyota (+23.1%) is up three spots on last month to #5 and 7% share vs. 5.5% so far this year. BYD (+696.1%) posts the largest gain in the Top 25 and returns to an all-time high 10th place, reaching a record 3.2% share. Cupra (+62.6%) is also in excellent shape, as are Leapmotor (+122.2%) and Fiat (+44.1%) while Zeekr (+3660%) continues to gear up a little more than one year since launch.

Model-wise, the Mercedes GLC (+54.6%) manages its third ever win in Switzerland after April 2025 and May 2026 but ranks #3 year-to-date, as it did over the Full Year 2026. The performance of the month is delivered by the Toyota Yaris Cross (+178.4%) almost tripling its sales YoY and up 31 spots on June to a record 2nd place. It ranks #16 year-to-date. The BMW X3/iX3 (+55.1%) completes the podium, the two models are combined for now but will be separated from next month onwards. The iX3 already accounts for 31% of total X3 sales year-to-date. Still #1 YTD, the VW Golf (+3.4%) is down one rank on last month to #4, as is the VW Tiguan (-21.5%) to #5.
