Switzerland May 2026: Mercedes GLC lodges 2nd ever win

The Mercedes GLC is the most popular vehicle in Switzerland in May.

Swiss new car sales edge down -1.1% year-on-year in May to 19,741 units, leading to a stable (+0.02%) year-to-date tally at 91,341. 4×4 sales are up 2.5% to 10,190 and 51.6% share vs. 49.8% a year ago, HEVs drop -5.2% to 6,818 and 34.5% share vs. 36% in May 2025, PHEVs are down -0.5% to 2,293 and 11.6% share vs. 11.5% last year and BEVs surge 23.1% to 5,140 and 26% share vs. 20.9% a year ago. YTD BEV sales are up 15.5% to 21,237 and 23.3% share vs. 20.1% over the same period in 2025.

In the brands ranking, Volkswagen (+5.1%) reclaims the top spot off Skoda (-0.1%) at 11.4% share vs. 10.1% for the Czech brand. Mercedes (+0.3%) stays at #3 while Audi (+8.2%) overtakes BMW (-21.2%) for 4th place. Renault (+18%) and Toyota (+7.4%) are strong below while BYD (+1015.4%) repeats at a record #10 and now ranks #14 year-to-date (+1288.5%) vs. #33 over the Full Year 2025. Notice also Tesla down -16.9% to #16 and #18 year-to-date vs. #11 over FY2025.

The Mercedes GLC (+60.3%) lodges its second ever win after April 2025 with 2.4% share, but is stuck at #5 year-to-date. The VW Tiguan (+7%) is up one spot on April to #2 and now also ranks #2 year-to-date. Leader so far this year, the VW Golf (+55.5%) is back up three ranks on last month to #3 ahead of a surging BMW X3 (+63.8%). The Skoda Kodiaq (-15.1%) rounds out the Top 5 in poor fashion. Skoda places 6 models in the Top 12: add the Karoq (#6), Octavia (#7), Elroq (#9), Fabia (#11) and Enyaq (#12)
