Romania July 2026: BYD up to #5, Dacia Logan confirms newfound top spot

The BYD Seal U breaks into the Romanian Top 10 in July.

11.740 new cars hit Romanian roads in July, a dramatic -28.2% year-on-year fall, following a 51.9% surge in June. The year-to-date tally is now off -5.7% to 76,593 after dropping -15.9% in 2025. Local behemoth Dacia (-35.6%) falls even faster than its home market but at 28% share it signs its best result so far this year after falling to a lowest ever 16.8% in April. It holds 19.5% of the market year-to-date. Toyota (-29.4%) stays in second place above Volkswagen (-18.7%) resisting somewhat and Skoda (-36.3%) freefalling. Newish to the ranking, BYD surges to a record 5th place with 672 sales and 5.7% share, also all time bests. Mercedes (+8%) soars 9 ranks on last month to #6 while Chery celebrates one year in market with a 10th spot. Geely climbs 161.8% to #16 while newcomers Omoda (#19) and Jaecoo (#25) both reach best ever rankings.

Over in the models charts, the Dacia Logan (-26.9%) confirms it is back in charge with a dominant 10.7% share, its first time above 10% for the year and best since last November, after falling to just 3% in March and April. The Logan (-51.1%) however remains #2 year-to-date below the Duster (-43%) with 1,172 units separating the two models. Given the Logan is 535 sales above the Duster (-50.8%) in July, it’s not impossible for it to reclaim the year-end top spot, in a pattern we have seen for the past two years (Duster #1 YTD for the first half of the year then Logan up to #1 at year-end). The Dacia Sandero (-19.7%) climbs four spots on June to #2, its highest ranking since last October after falling to #25 last January. It is stuck at #6 YTD. The Toyota Corolla (-24.9%) is the best of the rest at #4 while the BYD Seal U breaks into the Top 10 for the first time at #8.
