Portugal July 2026: Peugeot 208 #1, BYD Atto 2 up to #6

The Peugeot 208 is the best-selling vehicle in Portugal in July.

The Portuguese new car market edges up 3.5% year-on-year in July to 18,157 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 9.6% to 155,237. Peugeot (-7%) holds onto the brands top spot but drops to 8.4% share vs. 9.6% so far this year. Mercedes (-3.2%) is also in negative but returns to its traditional 2nd place. Volkswagen (+27%) surges ahead YoY but stays at #3, distancing Dacia (-2.9%) and BMW (+1%). Toyota (+34.3%) is also in great shape at #6 while BYD (+60.6%) reaches a record 9th place, also hit last November. Cupra (+160.5%), Leapmotor (+507.5%) and Xpeng (+146.5%) also shoot up just as Jaecoo leads all newcomers at #21 with 1.6% share, all records.

This month the Peugeot 208 (+79.3%) storms into the pole position with a sensational year-on-year lift. This is the nameplate’s third win this year after January and April. It remains #2 year-to-date however below its stablemate the Peugeot 2008 (-35%) down to #3 for the month. The Dacia Sandero (+4.6%) slips between the two models at #2. The Citroen C3 (-3.7%) and Dacia Duster (-26.7%) complete the Top 5. The BYD Atto 2 (+486.7%) is up nine spots on last month to reach a record 6th place. Excellent scores also by the Cupra Formentor (+322.2%), VW T-Roc (+92.5%), Toyota Yaris Cross (+62.1%) and Volvo EX30 (+56.3%). Finally the Jaecoo 5 tops all recent launches at #15 vs. #120 in June.
