India July 2026: Maruti Suzuki, Nissan and MG highlight record market up 33.6%

The new Tekton sends Nissan sales up 3-fold in July.

Wholesales in India surge 33.6% or 117,000 sales year-on-year in July to 463,249 units, obviously a new record for the month, smashing the previous best of 351,908 reached in 2023, In fact this is the second highest monthly volume in Indian history below the 466,814 of last October. This strong result indicates inventory build-up ahead of the upcoming festive season, particularly Onam and Varamahalakshmi in South India. The year-to-date tally surpasses the 3 million mark for the first time at this stage of the year at +20.6% to 3,058,660. That’s 523,000 new sales gained year-on-year, smashing the previous record of 2,535,659 last year

Maruti Suzuki (+42.4%) spectacularly reaches a new monthly record at 196,203 units, eclipsing its previous best of 190,337 reached last May. Tata (+58.4%) does even better in 2nd place with Mahindra (+20.4%) and Hyundai (+23.3%) following. Toyota (+4.7%) is markedly shyer at #5 ahead of Kia (+27.4%). MG (+22.2%) breaks its monthly volume record at 8,158 units. Outstanding results from Nissan (+218.2%), Citroen (+69%) and Honda (+48.5%).

Model-wise, the Maruti Suzuki DZire (+13.9%) is back to its traditional top spot for the 4th time in the past 5 months, and in fact Maruti Suzuki monopolises the Top 4 with the Wagon R (+58.7%), Ertiga (+30.1% to a new monthly record) and Swift (+51.8%) in tow. The Tata Punch (+97.6% to a new all-time best) is the best of the rest but falls from #1 in June to #5. The Maruti Suzuki Fronx (+51.3%), Baleno (+45.9%) and Tata Nexon (+36.2%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10. This month we welcome the Maruti Suzuki eVitara (#48), Nissan Tekton (#49, a reworked Renault Duster) and Honda ZR-V (#83).
