India First Half 2026: Maruti Suzuki DZire, Tata Punch and Nexon on top, record market up 18.6%
The Maruti Suzuki DZire is the best-selling vehicle in India over H1 2026.
The Indian new wholesales market shoots up 18.6% year-on-year over the First Half of 2026 to a record 2,595,411, eclipsing its previous best reached last year by over 400,000 sales. Maruti Suzuki (+16.9%), although trailing its “home” market slightly, passes the million units in six months for the first time ever. Tata (+40.4%) delivers the best performance near the top of the ranking and climbs two spots on 2025 to land in 2nd place, leapfrogging past Mahindra (+19%) and Hyundai (+7%). Toyota (+15%) closes out the Top 5 but sees its share erode slightly to 7.2%. Renault (+61.2%) breaks into the Top 10 with Citroen (+102.6%) and Nissan (+56.1%) also impressive but off a very low base. We also have access to a Top 6 premium brands ranking, showing Mercedes (+9%) at #1 above the BMW Group (+17%) and Audi (+14%).
The Maruti Suzuki DZire (+31.3%) storms into first place in the models charts, and although it ranked #1 over the Full Year 2025 if wasn’t the case a year ago over H1 2025. It was #1 in March, April and May. The Tata Punch (+41.1%) gains 8 spots to #2 thanks to its facelift and topped the charts outright in June. The Tata Nexon (+35.4%) follows, up five ranks to #3 and ranked #1 in January and February. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga (+17.7%) is up two spots, overtaking the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (-0.7%), leader at the same stage last year, and the Maruti Suzuki Swift (+5%). Hit hard are the Hyundai Creta (-9.1%) and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza (-5.1%). The Maruti Suzuki Victoris (#12) is the most popular new launch over the period, distancing the Mahindra XUV 7X0 (#20) and Tata Sierra (#25).
