Iceland July 2026: BYD #1 brand at 12.9% share, places Seal U in pole position
The BYD Seal U is the best-selling vehicle in Iceland in July.
1,149 new cars found a buyer in Iceland in July, a steep -12.4% year-on-year fall. The year-to-date tally is now off -5.5% to 8,645. In the brands charts, BYD (+76.2%) spectacularly takes the overall lead for the first time (previous best #3 in August 2025), up from #19 in June, and soars to an all time high 12.9% share. Only four units below is Toyota (+14.3%) also ignoring the surrounding gloom and also up to #2 year-to-date. Kia (-20.1%) struggles but remains in the YTD pole position. Skoda (+25%) and Dacia (-45.9%) round out the Top 5 with opposite fortunes. Smart (+427.3%) steps up one spot to a record 6th place with 5% share. Volkswagen (+104.3%), MG (+92.6%), Xpeng (+40%) and Volvo (+29.7%) all shine in the remainder of the Top 10. #1 in June, Tesla sells one unit in July.
Model-wise, the BYD Seal U storms into pole position with a round 100 sales and a dominant 8.7% share. This is compared with 5.2% for the #2, the Dacia Duster. The Kia Sportage is down one spot on last month to #3 but retains the YTD lead. The Smart #5 improves further to a world best equal #3. The MG 4 Urban is an instant blockbuster in the country, already up to #7 for its 2nd month in market. Notrice also the great performances of the KGM Korando (#8), VW ID.4 (equal #8), Skoda Kodiaq (#12) and KGM Musso Grand (#16).
