United Arab Emirates May 2026: Jetour T2 best-seller for the first time
The Jetour T2 is the most popular vehicle in the UAE in May.
The Emirati new light vehicle market is once again affected by the Iran war, with sales down -35.3% year-on-year in May to 16,534. This way, the year-to-date volume after 5 months is off -26.3% to 97,269. Toyota (-61.4%) is in complete freefall to just 15.7% share vs. 22.2% so far this year. Nissan (-34%) matches the market but only holds 11.7% share vs. 14.1% year-to-date. Mitsubishi (+5.7%) overtakes Jetour (+25.6%) for third place, both defying the negative market, with BMW/Mini stable year-on-year and up four spots on April to #5. BYD ranks #6 with 5.6% share and this month our coverage of the market improves as we welcome Chery at #11, Jaecoo at #12, Exeed at #21, iCAUR at #24 and Omoda at #37.
We have a big event in first place: the Jetour T2 (-2.6%) lodges its first ever win in the Middle East (and we believe in the world) with 4.5% share. It dislodges the Nissan Patrol (-28.6%) which however remains #2 year-to-date. The Mitsubishi Outlander (+77.8%) manages a very robust growth to #3 whereas the Toyota Hilux (-73.4%) is hit full frontal at #4. The Nissan Sunny (+471.2%) catches up on a poor year-ago result and is up 24 ranks on April to #5. The MG ZS (+62.1%), Haval H9 (+125.5%) and Toyota Yaris Sedan (+15.6%) also make themselves noticed below. The BYD Ti7 (aka Fang Cheng Bao) is the most popular recent launch at #14, distancing the BYD Song Plus (#19), Denza B8 (#22), iCAUR V27 (#27) and BYD Seal (#36).
