Romania April 2026: Dacia at lowest ever 16.8% share, Toyota Corolla up to record #2

The Toyota Corolla is up to a record 2nd place in Romania in April.

The Romanian market enjoys a second straight positive month, albeit very shy at +2.1% to 10,205 units. This is still a poor result given April 2025 was off -24.7% on the year prior. Year-to-date volumes are down -14.2% to 37,480. Local behemoth Dacia (-26.4%) continues its race to the bottom to just 16.8% share which could quite possibly be the carmaker’s lowest ever at home. In contrast Toyota (+6.8%), up two spots on last month to #2, and Volkswagen (+43.5%) easily beat the market to complete the podium.  There are no additional YoY gainers in the Top 10 except newcomer Chery threepeating at a best-ever #10 and equalling its record 3.5% share also hit last February.

Over in the models charts, the Dacia Duster (-18.1%) keeps a firm lead with 7.1% share. This month it distances the Toyota Corolla (+38.5%) up to a record 2nd place. The annual leader for 21 consecutive years, the Dacia Logan (-54.9%) continues to perform unbelievably badly even though it climbs back up two spots on March to #3 with a mediocre 3% share. It ranks #5 year-to-date with sales off a catastrophic -66.8% YoY. The VW Taigo (+231.8%) surges to an all-time high 5th position ahead of both the Dacia Sandero (-52.2%) and Bigster (+613.9%), the latter down five ranks on a record 2nd place last month. The Chery Tiggo 4 is once again the most popular recent launch and repeats at a record #10.
