Mexico May 2025: Ram up 79.2%, Nissan Magnite instant blockbuster

The Nissan Magnite is up to #11 for its third month in market.

Mexican new car sales stabilise in May at -0.2% to 119,959 units. This is the third biggest May volume in the past 8 years below last year (119,985) and the 122,925 sales of May 2017. The year-to-date tally is up 1.1% to 593,361. Nissan (+8.4%) vastly outpaces the market to a solid 18.8% share, distancing a struggling Chevrolet (-6.7%). Toyota (+10.7%) overtakes Volkswagen (-3.8%) to end the month on the third step of the podium. Kia (+0.6%) and Mazda (+8.8%) camp on their April and YTD rankings, with Hyundai (+9.6%) sturdy at #7. Ram (+79.2%) delivers the largest gain in the Top 15 and climbs to #10. Below, Changan (+253.9%), Mitsubishi (+61.3%) and Renault (+43%) stand out.

Model-wise, the Nissan Versa (-11%) easily holds onto the top spot despite a significant drop, while the Chevrolet Aveo (+7.7%) passes the Nissan NP300 (-8.1%) and Kia K3 (+3.7%) to soar to 2nd place overall. The Nissan March (-4.5%) disappoints at #5 ahead of the Mazda2 (+6.3%) and CX-30 (+26.9%). The Nissan Sentra (+10.4%) rallies back up 15 spots on April to #8 just as the VW Tiguan (+100.1%) doubles its sales year-on-year to #9. Below the Nissan Kicks (+23.8%), the new Nissan Magnite, launched in March, is up four ranks on last month to end its run just outside the Top 10 at #11.
