Colombia October 2024: Sales rally back up, BYD cracks Top 10

The Seagull helps push BYD into the Colombian Top 10 for the first time.

18,550 new cars hit Colombian roads in October, a fantastic 33.5% year-on-year improvement. However keep in mind October 2023 was in freefall at -38.5% on the year prior. As a result, October 2023 is the 2nd lowest result for the month in 10 years. The year-to-date tally is now up 3.8% to 154,013. Renault (+31.1%) reclaims the brand’s top spot for the first time this year and since September 2023 with 13.4%. It ends the month just three sales above a surging Kia (+101.3%) up one spot on September to #2. Toyota (+22.5%) trails the market and loses the top spot it held last month to #3. It remains however #1 year-to-date. Chevrolet (-2.8%) endures the only year-on-year loss in the Top 15 but is back to #4 like YTD. Mazda (+19.6%) and Nissan (+29.3%) trail the market unlike Hyundai (+292.6%) and Volkswagen (+72.3%). The best performance of the month is delivered by BYD (+422.4%) breaking into the Colombian Top 10 for the first time at #10.

Model-wise, the new Kia K3 steps into its first ever pole position with 3.5% share, eclipsing an underperforming Mazda CX-30 (+1.9%) for just 5 sales. The Kia Picanto (+56.3%) is one unit below at #3. The Renault Duster (+2.5%) also vastly trail the market and stays at #4 vs. #3 year-to-date and #1 over the Full Year 2023. Leader last month, the Toyota Corolla Cross (+478.4%) drops to #5 despite surging year-on-year. The Corolla Cross loses the YTD top spot to the Mazda CX-30. Solid showings by the Toyota Prado (+43.4%) at #6 and the Mazda2 (+35%) at #8. Among recent launches, below the K3 the Renault Arkana ranks at #12 ahead of the Renault Kardian (#14), BYD Seagull (#22) and Yuan Up (#30).
