Colombia November 2024: BYD breaks records again, Yuan Up in Top 10

The BYD Yuan ranks #9 in Colombia in November.

The Colombian new car market confirms it is on the mend in November with a splendid +17.7% year-on-year to 21,848 units, leading to a year-to-date volume up 5.3% to 175,861. According to local media, sales have been pushed by the “Auto Show effect” linked to the recent Bogota Auto Show, as well as the depreciation of the Colombian peso against the dollar, attractive credit conditions and the uncertainty regarding the possible increase in taxes of hybrids, which in the end didn’t happen.

The Top 2 carmakers both vastly outpace the surging market, with Renault up 54.6% to 14.1% share and Kia up 44% to 12.7% of the market. YTD leader Toyota (-7.4%) is in difficulty at #3 with 10.6% share vs. 13.8% so far this year. Mazda (+20.3%) is solid at #4, overtaking a struggling Chevrolet (-11.2%), while Hyundai (+19.7%) also beats the market at #7 with 4.7% share vs. 3.4% year-to-date. The hero of the month is once again BYD, up 228.5% year-on-year to break its ranking (#9), volume (887) and share (4.1%) records.

Model-wise, the new Kia K3 repeats at #1 with a strong 3.8% share, followed by the Mazda CX-30 (+22%) which stays #1 year-to-date. The Renault Duster (+19.1%) is up one spot on October to #3 just as the Renault Logan (+179.9%) soars 15 ranks to #4 and the Toyota Corolla Cross (+104%) more than doubles its year-ago volume at #5. The Renault Kwid (+44.9%) also shines, up 17 spots to #7 which is its YTD ranking also. Meanwhile the BYD Yuan Up EV surges 21 ranks to break into the Top 10 for the first time at #9.
