Colombia October 2023: Toyota signs third ever win, market off -38.5%

The Toyota SW4 Fortuner is up to a record 4th place this month.

New vehicle sales in Colombia are in freefall again in October at -38.5% year-on-year to just 13,893 units. This is equivalent to the October 2005 result (13,331) and slightly below October 1997 (14,536). The year-to-date tally is now off -31.9% to 148,393. Like last May and June, Toyota (+2.9%) snaps the brands pole position, this time only two units above Renault (-52.1%). In fact Toyota is the only year-on-year gainer in the Top 5. Chevrolet (-47.9%), Mazda (-39.1%) and Kia (-12.6%) follow. Nissan (+37.1%) once again is a standout performer, managing the largest year-on-year lift in the entire Top 30. Ford (+2.9%) also impresses in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Volkswagen (-61.2%) and Hyundai (-60.3%) both sink. Below, BMW (+40.1%), Audi (+7.1%) and Subaru (+4.3%) are in positive.

Model-wise, the Mazda CX-30 (+46.7%) is the best-seller for the 5th month in a row but a slow start of the year means it only ranks #6 over 10 months. The Renault Duster (-47.9%) remains the YTD leader and steps up one spot on September to #2. The Suzuki Swift (-75.7%) implodes at #3, whereas the Toyota SW4 Fortuner (+57.1%) smashes its record ranking from #10 in November 2022 to #4 this month. The Toyota Prado (+83.2%) and Hilux (+10.5%) are also up in the remainder of the Top 10. Further down, the Toyota Yaris Cross (+79.2%), Nissan Frontier (+78.5%), Ford Escape (+48%) and Chevrolet Tracker (+28.4%) all defy the depleted market with splendid year-on-year gains.
