Czechia January 2024: Skoda up to highest share in 4 years, Ssangyong breaks into Top 10
The Skoda Kamiq breaks its volume and share records in January.
New car sales in Czechia climb up a very solid 18.8% in January to 20,361 units. Homegrown behemoth Skoda (+45.9%) shoots up to a mammoth 42.3% share, its highest in exactly 4 years: since the 43.3% of January 2020. In fact Skoda is almost solely responsible for the overall volume growth this month, with the next 8 carmakers all trailing the market. Hyundai (+7.3%), Toyota (+13.5%) and Volkswagen (-4%) ensure the Top 4 stays unchanged on December. Peugeot (+8.9%), BMW (+2.9%) and Kia (+1.8%) are up but Mercedes (-40.1%) and Dacia (-23.6%) fall hard. Ssangyong (+63.5%) scores the largest gain in the Top 18 and breaks into the Czech Top 10 for the very first time at #10.
Over in the models ranking, the Skoda Octavia (+137.4%) hits its highest share in two years at 12.5%. It distances the Skoda Kamiq (+114.9%) up to a record #2 also hit in June, August, September 2021 and April 2023. The Kamiq breaks its volume and share records this month. The Skoda Fabia (+4.7%) drops one spot on last month to #3 as does the Skoda Scala (+29.2%) at #4. The Kodiaq (+6.2%) completes a Top 5 entirely composed of Skodas. The Hyundai i30 (-5.1%) is the best of the rest at #6 with Skoda placing seven models in the Top 8: add the Karoq (+6.1%) at #7 and Superb (+2.2%) at #8. The VW Golf (+340.3%), Toyota RAV4 (+217.6%) and MG ZS (+442.9%) roar ahead.
