Sweden February 2023: Sales down another -12.7%, Toyota Yaris Cross up to record #5
The Toyota Yaris Cross breaks into the Swedish Top 5 in February.
The Swedish new car market is off another -12.7% year-on-year in February, meaning the year-to-date tally is now down -19.5% to 33,043. BEVs defy the market slump with sales up 13.1% year-on-year to 6,124 and 33.2% share vs. 25.6% a year ago. For their part PHEVs drop -30.1% to 3,841 and 20.8% share vs. 26% in February 2022. As a whole, rechargeable cars are down -8.6% to 9,965 and 54% share vs. 51.6% last year.
Volvo (-32.3%) easily retails the brands lead with 14.6% share and despite freefalling year-on-year. V Volkswagen (+10.7%) is the only Top 5 marque in positive and gains two spots on January to #2. Kia (-15.2%), Toyota (-15.5%) and BMW (-25.9%) all fall faster than the market and ensure the Top 5 is identical to the year-to-date ranking. Peugeot (+31.1%), Mercedes (+12.4%) and Audi (+8.2%) also shine among the 10 best-selling brands, as does MG (+19.4%) up four ranks to #11. Below, Dacia (+21.2%), Mazda (+194.6%) and Fiat (+107.6%) all manage outstanding scores. Chinese fares Hongqi and WEY make their debut in Sweden.
Over in the models charts, the Volvo XC40 (-6.3%) and XC60 (-31.5%) hold onto the Top 2 spots as they did over the Full Year 2022. The VW ID.4 (+65.8%) bounces back up 8 spots on January to #3 ahead of the Kia Ceed (+4.4%) up six to #4. The Toyota Yaris Cross (+114.8%) is up a further two ranks to hit a record 5th place with 2.7% share. It now ranks #6 year-to-date vs. #26 over the Full Year 2022. The Kia Niro (-58.7%) implodes at #6 whereas the Kia Sportage (+351.8%) surges at #7. The Toyota Corolla Cross (#15) is once again the best-selling recent launch despite losing 9 spots on last month.
