Slovakia January 2023: Skoda Fabia leads, Toyota Yaris Cross #5, registrations up 16.4%

The Toyota Yaris Cross hits a record ranking in Slovakia.

6,680 new cars hit Slovak roads in January, a very solid 16.4% year-on-year improvement. Skoda (+10.3%) can’t quite keep up with the market but lodges a strong 18.7% share vs. 17.6% over the Full Year 2022. Toyota (+43.3%) races to 2nd place above Kia (+41.4%) and Hyundai (+28%), all beating the market as is Volkswagen (+18.5%) at #5. In fact all remaining Top 10 bar Dacia (-1.6%) outrace the overall growth average: Peugeot is up 83.4%, Renault up 46.2%, Mercedes 27.2% and BMW 20.7%.

Model-wise, the Skoda Fabia (+7.6%) trails the market but ranks #1 for the third time in the past four months after being upset by the Hyundai i30 (+6.5%) in the Full Year 2022 rankings. The Skoda Kamiq (+48.3%) surges ahead in 2nd place while the Hyundai Tucson (+40.7%) is equally impressive at #3 above the Hyundai i30. The Toyota Yaris Cross (+161.4%) is up 7 spots on December to #5, equally its record ranking also reached last August. The Skoda Scala (+189.2%) and Kia Sportage (+170.5%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10.
