Belgium Full Year 2022: BMW repeats at #1 above Volkswagen, Dacia Sandero #1, market down -4.4%

The Belgian new car market endures a third straight year of decline in 2022 at -4.4% to 366,303 sales after falling -11.2% in 2021 and -21.5% in 2020. BMW (-2.4%) repeats at #1 with 10.4% share, widening the gap with Volkswagen (-6.7%) from 4,613 sales last year to 5,950 now. BMW hit an all-time record share in November at 12.2%. Mercedes (+6.4%) climbs up two spots to #3 and 8% share, leapfrogging past Peugeot (+2.3%) and Audi (-6.3%). Toyota (+34.6%) is even more impressive and lifts four ranks from #10 to #6. Renault (-7.5%) and Citroen (-8.7%) each drop one spots as a result to #7 and #8. Dacia (+10%) is up four to #9 while Kia (+13.6%) is up five to #10. Notice also Tesla up 46.8%, Porsche up 12.5% DS up 53.7%, Cupra up 145.5% and Lynk & co up 102.1%.

Over in the models ranking, the Dacia Sandero (+20.4%) gains two spots on last year to snap the pole position with 2.2% share, making Belgium one of the most fragmented markets in the world. Leader in 2021, the Volvo XC40 is knocked down to #2 while the Peugeot 308 (+145.9%) storms into the Top 10 at #3 thanks to the new generation. The Peugeot 208 (+16.8%) also impresses at #4.
