Taiwan Full Year 2022: Toyota Corolla Cross #1 again, podium 100% Toyota in market off -4.5%

New car sales in Taiwan dip -4.5% year-on-year in 2022 to 429,731 units vs. 449,859 a year ago. Toyota (-2.2%) improves its market share to an ultra dominant 28.7%. Honda (-4.1%) evolves like the market and overtakes Ford (-18.8%) in difficulty. Nissan (-13.9%) and Mercedes (-16.1%) both underperform but camp on their 2021 rankings at #4 and #5 respectively. CMC (-8.2%) passes Mitsubishi (-23.3%) to rank #6 overall with Lexus (-6.1%), BMW (-9.6%) and Mazda (+5.9%) rounding out the Top 10 like in 2021. Notice also Tesla (+106.4%) up to #12.

Model-wise, the Toyota Corolla Cross (-2.7%) repeats at #1 with a very strong 9.2% share. It distances two Toyotas like last year: the RAV4 (-30.4%) and Corolla (-7.7%) both in trouble and replicating the 2021 podium. The CMC Veryca (-7.6%) gains one spot on 2021 to #4 despite a sizeable year-on-year drop. It overtakes the Honda CR-V (-14.3%). The Nissan Kicks (-0.7%) is stable year-on-year and up two ranks to #6 ahead of the Ford Focus (-5%) and Toyota Yaris (+2.5%). The Ford Kuga (-25.6%) and new Toyota Town Ace round out the Top 10. Note the Tesla Model Y topped the December charts with 8.6% share.
