New car sales in Taiwan edge down -1.6% 449,859 units. Of these are 201,270 imports for a 44.7% share vs. 46.2% in 2020. Toyota (+2.2%) remains the faraway leader with an improved 28.1% share vs. 27% a year ago. Ford (+5.2%) takes the 2nd spot, up from #5 last year while Honda (-6.2%) remains in third place and Nissan (-20.3%) drops two ranks to #4. Mitsubishi is estimated to grow 7.3% with sister brand CMC estimated at +13.3%. Mercedes (-6%) and Lexus (-10.9%) suffer while BMW (+1%) is up, but just.
2021 is the year of the consecration for the Toyota Corolla Cross in Taiwan, easily becoming the best-selling vehicle in the market with a strong 9% share. It distances the Toyota RAV4 at 5.6% and the Toyota Corolla Altis at 4%. The Honda CR-V and CMC Veryca complete the Top 5 ahead of the Ford Kuga, Focus and Nissan Kicks.
