215,050 new cars hit Austrian roads in 2022, a harsh -10.3% year-on-year decline on the 239,803 units of 2021 which was already down -3.6% on the year prior. Volkswagen (-11.2%) evolves roughly like the market to easily keep the brands leadership with 14.9% share. Its follower Skoda (-14.1%) falls faster but remains at #2 with 8.7% share. BMW (+4.4%) catches up below at #3 with 7.6% share vs. 6.5% a year ago. Audi (-1.7%) holds up well and gains two spots to #4 while Mercedes (-8.3%), also improving its share, is stable at #5. Hyundai (-7.1%) and Ford (-9.2%) follow with Seat (-31.3%) the biggest loser in the Top 10. Toyota (+45%) surges up 7 spots to crack the Top 10 at #9 while Kia (+5.4%) also enters the Top 10 at #10. Cupra (+167.2%), MG (+75.8%), Dacia (+15.4%) and Tesla (+15.1%) impress below.

Over in the models ranking, despite a drastic fall the Skoda Octavia (-27.7%) reclaims the top spot it held back in 2020 to sign its third ever win in Austria (add 2019). 2.1% share is enough for the Octavia to claim #1. The Toyota Yaris/Cross (+115.3%) logically surges ahead with the addition of Yaris Cross sales and places #2 for the year. It overtakes the Tesla Model Y (+279.8%) at the last minute, the latter ranking #3 just 41 sales below. The VW Golf (-13.9%) drops one spot to #4 with the Dacia Sandero (+10.7%) lurking just behind and up four spots on 2021 to #5. The Sandero was #1 in Austria in July and August. Note the ID.4 ranked #1 in November and December. #1 last year, the Fiat 500 lineup (-56.5%) implodes to #12.
