Austria Full Year 2021: Fiat 500 lineup topples Skoda Octavia in market down -3.6%

New car sales in Austria drop a further -3.6% year-on-year in 2021 to 239,803 units. Volkswagen (-6%) remains ultra dominant but sees its share dip from 15.4% to 15%. Skoda (-7.6%) is also down to 9.1%. In fact the Top 5 brands are all in negative, with BMW (-1.2%) outpacing the market to grab the third place above Seat (-4.8%). Mercedes (-3.4%) is up three spots to #5, as is Audi (+13.1%) to #6, signing the largest and one of only two gains in the Top 10 alongside Fiat (+10.2%). Renault (-16.8%), Ford (-13.6%) and Hyundai (-8.6%) underperform. Further down, MG (+308.5%), Tesla (+45.6%), Jaguar (+36.1%) and Kia (+19.2%) shine while Cupra (+1239.9%) ends its first full year of sales at #25.

Over in the models ranking, the Fiat 500 lineup (+25.6%) gains three spots to end two years of domination by the Skoda Octavia (-21.8%) while the VW Golf (-30.9%) loses significant share in third place, going from 2.8% to 2% of the market. This year no nameplate holds more than 2.7% share, making Austria one of the most fragmented markets in the world. The VW T-Roc (+3.6%) advances two ranks to #4 while the VW Bus (+15.4%) is up three to #5. The VW Group places 7 models in the Top 8 with the Skoda Fabia (-26.9%), VW Polo (-27.5%) and Seat Ibiza (+22.6%) in tow. The Dacia Sandero (+40.8%) surges from outside the 2020 Top 20 directly to 9th place, the Tesla Model 3 (+22.2%) cracks the annual Top 10 at #10 and the Seat Arona (+16.1%) soars to #13. Below, notice the VW ID.3 (+73.8%) up to #16 and the BMW X3 (+118.4%) up to #18. The VW ID.4 is the best-selling 2021 launch, just missing out on a Top 20 finish for less than 100 sales. It is followed by the Skoda Enyaq.
