The Tata Nexon breaks its volume record in November.
New car wholesales in India surge another 31.3% year-on-year in November to 322,070 units, a new record for the month smashing the previous best of 286,476 hit in November 2020. The year-to-date volume is now up a fantastic 24.3% year-to-date to 3,508,868 factory shipments. This means the all-time annual record of 3,384,982 established in 2018 is already surpassed with still one month left in the year. Maruti Suzuki (+20.7%) can’t match the market growth but scores a strong 41.1% share, while Hyundai (+29.7%) is a little more dynamic and ends the month at 14.9% share vs. 14.6% year-to-date. Tata (+54.6%) and Mahindra (+56%) follow with tremendous year-on-year gains lifting them to 14.3% and 9.4% share respectively. In 5th place, Kia (+69%) does even better and reaches 7.5% of the market. Skoda (+101.9%), MG (+64.4%) and Citroen (+725%) post the largest upticks below.
Over in the models charts, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno (+110.9%) more than doubles its sales year-on-year to easily grab the top spot with almost 21,000 wholesales. This is the Baleno’s second Indian win in the past four month as it cements its 2nd place year-to-date. The Tata Nexon (+61.4%) also soars in 2nd place and breaks its all time volume record at just under 15,900 units. It also reached #2 last May. #1 last month, the Maruti Suzuki Alto (+13.4%) drops to third place ahead of the Maruti Suzuki Swift (+4%), both shy, while the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R (-12.7%) skids but manages to comfortably retain the YTD pole position. The DZire (+76.4%) and Ertiga (+57.9%) follow in style and make it 6 Maruti Suzuki models in the Top 7. The Tata Punch (+98.5%) also beats the market in the remainder of the Top 10.
