Czech Republic November 2022: 6 Skodas in Top 6, market up 7.6%

The Skoda Fabia is the best-selling vehicle in the Czech Republic in November.

The Czech new car market slows down its growth: from +28.5% in October to +7.6% in November at 17,408 sales. The year-to-date tally is now off -6.9% to 177,534 units. Once again homegrown behemoth Skoda outpaces the market at +16.6% to 36.2% share vs. 32.7% year-to-date. In 2nd place, Volkswagen (+84.7%) shoots up, compensating for a particularly weak year-ago volume and does nothing more than getting back to its YTD level at 8.3% share vs. 8.4% so far this year. Hyundai (-37.3%) is in complete perdition in third place but easily holds onto the 2nd spot year-to-date. The next five carmakers all beat the market, with Mercedes (+36%) and Toyota (+22.7%) the most dynamic followed by Dacia (+16.3%), Kia (+12%) and Ford (+11.1%).

Model-wise, this month the Skoda Fabia (+44.9%) spectacularly reclaims the overall lead with 9.1% share, its highest since September 2021 (10.2%). It however remains a distant 2nd year-to-date below the Skoda Octavia (-10.1%) in difficulty in November. The Skoda Karoq (+2.8%) stays in third position ahead of the Skoda Kamiq (+35.5%), Kodiaq (+70.9%) and Superb (+29.5%), making it 6 Skodas in the Top 6. This is the carmaker’s best performance since last January (record 7 in Top 7). The Hyundai i30 (-50.7%) is the best of the rest at #7 but takes a very hard hit. The Dacia Duster (+29.3%) manages the only additional gain in the Top 10 just as the Skoda Scala (-25.9%) and Kia Ceed (-21.5%) freefall.
