Ireland October 2022: Renault Arkana up to #2 in market back in negative (-2.1%)
The Renault Arkana hits a world record 2nd place in Ireland this month.
As the year comes to an end, the Irish market traditionally falls into oblivion, awaiting the licence plate change of January. On top of this, new car sales fall back into negative in October at -2.1% to 2,623 units after gaining 41.9% in September. The year-to-date tally remains in positive – just – at +0.4% and 104,055 sales. Atop the brands ranking, Volkswagen (+38.9%) goes against the negative market to a fantastic 16.1% market share vs. 11.2% so far this year. Renault (+235.6%) does even better, tripling its sales year-on-year and gaining 9 spots on September to land at #2 overall. Skoda (-20.3%) is in great difficulty but still manages a podium finish vs. #5 YTD. Kia (+7.1%) and Hyundai (+1.2%) deliver modest growth all the while Dacia (+135%) soars. Still #1 year-to-date by a safe margin, Toyota (-47.7%) is down to a paltry 10th place for the month.
Model-wise, the VW ID.4 (+93.8%) scores its second win in the past 3 months and third overall (add March 2021) with 5.9% share. It distances the Renault Arkana (+256.7%) up 160 spots on last month (!) to a world record #2. The Renault Clio (+1900%) and Hyundai Kona (+1228.6%) both lodge surreal gains below while the Dacia Duster (+736.4%) and Kia Niro (+435.3%) are also in outstanding shape. The Skoda Octavia (+64.5%) and Mini Hatch (+152.9%) also impress below. The Dacia Jogger (#14) is the best-selling recent launch above the VW Taigo (#28), Polestar 2 (#29) and VW ID.5 (#30).
