Colombia October 2022: First market drop in 7 months, Suzuki Swift now #1 year-to-date
The Suzuki Swift is now #1 year-to-date in Colombia.
For the first time since March, the Colombian new vehicle market is down year-on-year at -3.2% to 22,606 units. The year-to-date tally however remains largely in positive at +8.2% to 218,016 sales. The Top 4 brands all go against the market with solid gains. Renault (+16.1%) easily remains the most popular with 17.5% share ahead of Chevrolet (+32.5%) at 14.1% and Suzuki (+55.3%) in outstanding shape at 13% share vs. 8.4% so far this year. Mazda (+9.8%) is more discreet but climbs up three spots on September to #4. In contrast the rest of the Top 10 all sink by double-digits. Kia (-11.1%) is the least affected followed by Toyota (-24.9%), Hyundai (-28.8%), Volkswagen (-34.5%), Ford (-36.2%) and Nissan (-64.9%) in complete freefall.
Model-wise, the Suzuki Swift (+390.9%) is up 5-fold on its year-ago volume to secure a definitive victory with 8.8% share, more than double any other vehicle in the market. The Swift snaps the YTD lead as a result, toppling the Renault Duster (+4.8%) down to #2 both for the month and YTD. The Chevrolet Onix continues to catch up on extremely low year-ago levels and stays in third place overall. The Mazda2 (+243.3%) is up 28 ranks on last month to #4 while the Mazda CX-5 (+141.5%) is equally impressive at #5. The Renault Kwid (+104.9%) and Sandero (+53.2%) also shine in the remainder of the Top 10 while the VW Gol (+1%) edges up. Notice the Jetour X70 breaking into the Colombian Top 75 for the first time at #73.
