Argentina October 2022: Renault up 97.5%, VW Amarok up to #2, sales up 14.3%

The VW Amarok is up 32% in October.

New vehicle sales in Argentina soar 14.3% year-on-year in October to 32,070 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 6.9% to 353,581. It’s worth noting that October 2021 was down -26% on the year prior. The Top 3 brands all advance faster than the market. Toyota (+30.7%) is up to 21.5% share vs. 20.1% so far this year, Volkswagen (+18.2%) is up to 12.1% of the market vs. 11.7% YTD and Renault (+97.5%) displays the most impressive result and improves to 11.7% vs. 9.7% after 10 months. Fiat (-14.8%) is in bad shape but manages to stay in 4th place like in September vs. #2 year-to-date. Chevrolet (+45.3%) catches up on stock constrained year-ago volumes and is the only gainer in the remainder of the Top 10. Indeed Citroen (-45.6%), Peugeot (-18.1%), Mercedes (-13.5%) and Nissan (-8.7%) are all hit this month.

Over in the models ranking, the Fiat Cronos (-4.6%) is once again the overall leader, having topped the Argentinean charts each and every month this year and over 25 of the past 26 months. It is however two percentage points below its YTD level in October at 7.7% vs. 9.7% so far this year. The locally produced VW Amarok (+32%), despite being over a decade old but with a new generation in the works, is up to a fantastic 2nd place, its best ranking since April 2021 (also #2) and the first time since then it manages to outsell its archenemy the Toyota Hilux (-25.4%) ranking #3 this month. The Toyota Etios (+307%) is up three spots on September to #4 vs. #5 so far this year, distancing the Renault Sandero (+422.8%) and Peugeot 208 (+2.9%) down four ranks to #6 but still #2 year-to-date. The VW Polo (+883.3%), Toyota Corolla Cross (+145.2%) and Toyota Yaris (+91.9%) all score flamboyant gains in the remainder of the Top 10.
