Brazil September 2022: Sales soar 26.8%, Chery iCar and Fiat Fastback land
The Chery iCar ranks #52 in Brazil in September.
New light vehicle sales in Brazil post a second consecutive month of year-on-year double-digit gains in September at a splendid +26.8% to 180.424 units. Keep in mind however that September 2021 was down -28.4% on the year prior. The year-to-date tally after 9 months remains in negative for now at -5.1% to 1,395,158, off 75,000 sales over the same period in 2021. Fiat (+34%) comfortably remains the most popular carmaker in the country, even beating the market. Chevrolet (+62.9%) also advances faster than the market on stock-impacted year-ago volumes. The American brand reclaims the #2 spot it holds YTD off Volkswagen (+26.5%). Hyundai (+12.5%) and Toyota (+19.2%) round out the Top 5 but both underperform. Renault (+123.5%) is the biggest gainer in the Top 15, with Citroen (+114.2%) also doubling its volume year-on-year. Below, Ram (+276.7%) and Kia (+33.3%) stand out.
The Fiat Fastback makes its first appearance in the Brazilian charts.
Model-wise, the Fiat Strada (+71.7%) vastly outpaces the market but sees its market share drop to 5.5% vs. 6.2% YTD. The next four models take advantage of the VW Gol falling to #9 and all advance one spot on August: the Hyundai HB20 (+23.6%) trails the market at #2 but the Chevrolet Onix (+87.4%), Onix Plus (+107.7%) and Fiat Mobi (+63.4%) all shine, as do the Chevrolet Tracker (+81.1%) – all Chevrolet models soaring on weak year-ago sales – and Fiat Argo (+44.4%) below. The Renault Kwid (+191.3%) rounds out the Top 10 in sensational fashion. Outside this Top 10, the VW Saveiro (+231.7%), Voyage (+413.3%), Chevrolet Spin (+348.3%) Renault Duster (+137.3%) and Toyota Yaris Hatch (+128.2%) all post superb lifts. The Fiat Pulse (#15), Jeep Commander (#30) and Honda City Hatch (#37) are the best-selling newcomers just as we welcome the Chery iCar (#52) aka Little Ant, and the Fiat Fastback (#54).
