Vietnam April 2022: Honda City tops market up 31.6%

The Honda City is the best-selling vehicle in Vietnam in April.

According to VAMA, new vehicle sales in Vietnam are up a whopping 40.9% year-on-year in April to 42,359 units, bringing the year-to-date volume up 31.1% to 132,865. These figures climb to 51,745 (+31.6%) for the month and 167,649 (+26%) when adding Hyundai and VinFast who report separately from VAMA. Thaco-Kia (+34.3%) remains in the lead of the manufacturers ranking with 18.2% share ahead of Toyota (+55.3%) outpacing the market and Hyundai (+6.4%) in positive but trailing the market growth significantly. Honda (+216.2%) roars back up to #4, its ranking YTD, with 11.8% share vs. 9.1% so far this year. Mazda (+60%), Suzuki (+173.6%) and Peugeot (+46%) also beat the market below whereas VinFast (-10.7%) underperforms.

Model-wise, the Honda City (+302.3%) multiplies its year-ago volume by 4 to become the best-selling model in the country for the first time since June 2020. It distances a shy Toyota Vios (+29.3%) and the Toyota Corolla Cross (+144.6%) holding onto the YTD top spot. The Honda CR-V (+231.7%) is up nine spots on March to land at #4 overall while the Hyundai Accent (-11.6%) rounds out the Top 5. The Mazda CX-5 (+101%) and Kia K3 (+103.6%) both double their registrations to end the month at #6 and #7 respectively. Leader last month, the VinFast Fadil (+6.1%) falls to a paltry 8th place due to a weak uptick. Launched last month, the Hyundai Creta is up 45 ranks to #15 while among recent launches the Kia Sonet is up 9 to #17, the Toyota Raize down 3 to #23 and the VinFast VF e34 stats at #31.
