Sweden January 2022: Kia (+41.3%) ignores market down -3.3%, places EV6 at #13

The Kia EV6 is a successful launch in Sweden.

The new year starts with a -3.3% year-on-year drop in Sweden at 19,893 registrations. Local behemoth Volvo (-12.2%) falls four times faster than the market but easily keeps the brands top spot with 18.7% share vs. 16% over the Full Year 2021. Kia (+41.3%) blatantly ignores the negative context to gain two spots on December and land at #2 overall above Volkswagen (-14.1%), Toyota (-9.6%) and BMW (-16.1%). Ford (+307.7%) shows explosive growth at #5 with the remainder of the Top 10 all underperforming, starting with Mercedes (-48.5%) and Audi (-29%). Peugeot (-15.3%) and Skoda (-10%) fare a little better. Below, notice Dacia (+256.4%), Suzuki (+77.8%), Polestar (+65.3%), Mini (+50.4%), Renault (+31.1%) and Hyundai (+19.4%). Lynk & Co is up two spots on last month to #22, in between Porsche and Suzuki.

Model-wise, the Volvo XC40 (+39.3%) secures a second ever win at home after October 2020. It distances the Kia Niro (+121.9%) in outstanding shape while the Volvo XC60 (-8%) rounds out the podium. Leader over the Full Year 2021, the Volvo S/V60 (-38.3%) falls heavily to #4, a ranking it also held last month. The Kia Ceed (-6.6%) closes the Top 5 ahead of the VW ID.4, the brand’s best-seller in Sweden for the 6th month running. The Ford Kuga (+1737%) posts a surreal and PHEV-fuelled gain at #8 while two recent launches make waves this month: the MG HS at #12 and the Kia EV6 at #13.
