The Fiat Pulse misses out on a first Top 10 finish by just 100 sales.
It’s a very harsh start of the year for new light vehicle sales in Brazil, down -28.3% to 116,601 units on a January 2021 volume already down -11.7% on the year prior. Fiat (-24.6%) easily keeps the brands top spot with a round 20% share vs. 21.8% over the Full Year 2020. After perking back “up” in December (-20.2%), Chevrolet is back in hell at -50.8% but remains in 2nd place above Volkswagen (-50.8%) also imploding. Hyundai (-14.9%) resists well and gains one spot on December to #4 while Jeep (-6.4%) smashes its market share record at 9.7% vs. a previous best of 8.8% last October. Toyota (-2.3%) also manages to be almost stable but drops two ranks on December to #5. Renault (-18.5%) and Honda (-26%) also outpace the market but by a much slighter margin. Peugeot (+162.2%) is by far the best performer in the Top 10 at #9.
Model-wise, the Fiat Strada (-27.3%) returns to the pole position it held over the Full Year 2021 despite a heavy loss. It distances the Hyundai HB20 (-29%) up four spots to #2 while the Chevrolet Onix (-50.7%), after returning to the top spot in December, is back down to #3. The Jeep Renegade (-29.5%) and Compass (-2.5%) make it two Jeeps in the monthly Top 5 for the 2nd time ever after October 2021. The Hyundai Creta (+2.7%) signs the only year-on-year gain in the Top 10 to climb at a record 6th place, also hit last May and November. The VW T-Cross (-28.2%), Gol (-45.3%), Chevrolet Onix Plus (-51.9%) and Fiat Toro (-37.1%) round out the Top 10 in poor fashion. Just outside, the Fiat Pulse is up 7 spots to #11.
