Finland September 2021: Tesla Model Y lands at #2 in market down -22.6%

The Tesla Model Y ranks #2 in Finland in September.

The Finnish new car market drops -22.6% year-on-year in September to 6.399 registrations, bringing the year-to-date tally up 6.5% to 76.339 units. Toyota (-24.9%) remains the best-selling carmaker in the country albeit with a lower 13.9% share vs. 15.7% so far this year. Kia (+25%) swims upstream and posts the only year-on-year gain in the Top 5, up one spot on August to #2 overall and toppling Volkswagen (-31.5%) in difficulty. In fact the rest of the Top 5 underperforms with Skoda (-33.9%) and Ford (-25.2%) both weak. Tesla (+66%) leaps up 23 ranks on last month to #6 as the end-of-quarter brings the usual amount of sales backloading. Hyundai (+12.1%) is the only additional gainer in the Top 10, with Citroen (+8%) also up at #15.

Over in the models ranking, the Toyota Corolla (-29.1%) easily keeps the lead with 6% share vs. 5.5% year-to-date, but the event of the month is below: the Tesla Model Y makes a thunderous entrance directly into 2nd place in Finland. The Tesla Model 3 for its part is up to #4 overall, below a record-breaking Kia Stonic (+80.2%) up 12 spots on August to #3. The Toyota Yaris (+69.7%), Kia Rio (+41.6%) and Kia Ceed (+3.9%) also stand out with year-on-year upticks in the remainder of the Top 10. Below, the Ford Kuga (+118.2%), VW Tiguan (+107.7%), BMW 3 Series (+80.3%), Hyundai i20 (+33.7%) and Kia Niro (+14%) make themselves noticed.
