Argentina May 2021: Toyota back in charge, Corolla Cross inside Top 20

The Toyota Corolla Cross lands directly at #17 in Argentina in May.

With dealerships closed for the last week of the month due to returning Covid restrictions, the Argentinean new vehicle market finds itself up just 5.6% year-on-year to 22.193 while May 2020 was already down -42.6% on the year prior, so very weak volumes this month. The year-to-date tally is now up 47.2% to 170.563. Note it appears total May 2020 figures were overvalued and the actual year-on-year gain this month should be closer to 17%. Toyota (+123.9%) reclaims the brands top spot ahead of Volkswagen (+43.4%), Fiat (+27.8%) and Chevrolet (+10.8%), with the Top 4 brands all outpacing the market. Nissan (+53.3%) also shines in the remainder of the Top 10 whereas Ford (-32.8%) and Renault (-29.5%) struggle.

Model-wise, the Fiat Cronos (+377.7%) celebrates 9 straight months in the pole position at 7.9% share vs. 9.5% so far this year. The Toyota Hilux (+76.9%) reclaims the pickup crown above the VW Amarok (+112.6%) albeit the latter is a lot more dynamic year-on-year. The VW Gol (+55.6%) remains in 4th place above the Toyota Etios (+148.8%) and Peugeot 208 (+10.7%), the May Top 6 replicating the YTD order. The Toyota Yaris (+91.7%) and Chevrolet Cruze (+134.7%) also impress in the remainder of the Top 10. The Toyota Corolla Cross lands inside the Top 20 for its first month in market and tops all recent launches at #17. It distances the VW Nivus (#21), Ford Bronco (#32), Ford Territory (#33) and Renault Alaskan (#35).
