Turkey August 2020: Fiat (+304.2%), Ford (+417%) top market rallying back up 134.4%

Ford sales are up 417% year-on-year in Turkey in August.

05/10 update: Now with Top 25 models.

Once again Turkish new light vehicle sales post extravagant numbers in August at +134.4% year-on-year to 61.533 units, leading to a year-to-date tally up 68.4% to 403.002. However it must be noted that the past two years worth of sales were annihilated by a strenuous economic crisis and make comparison bases extraordinarily low. This way, August 2020 is up 79.2% on August 2018 but down -15.2% on August 2017 which is a more realistic comparison set. Even though the market as a whole is flying off, there are wild variations among carmakers. Fiat (+304.2%) is up 4-fold on its year-ago volume to reach a whopping 21.9% share vs. 17.4% so far this year and Ford (+417%) is up 5-fold to #2 and 14% share vs. 11.1% YTD. In contrast Volkswagen (+57.6%), Renault (+27.1%) and Toyota (+99.2%) all underperform and round out the Top 5. Audi (+313.4%), BMW (+210.5%) and Nissan (+175.6%) also outpace the market in the remainder of the Top 10 where Hyundai (+137.2%) matches the overall growth rate but Mercedes (+69.6%) falls way below. Further down, additional surreal gainers include Mitsubishi (+1606.8%), Alfa Romeo (+625%), Lexus (+600%), Ssangyong (+464.3%), Subaru (+433.3%), Seat (+351.3%), Jeep (+342.8%) and Kia (+237.1%).

Previous month: Ford (+830.4%), Audi (+772.8%), Fiat (+701%) highlight surreal month (+387.5%)

One year ago: Turkey August 2019: Fiat Egea (+65%), VW Passat (+51.1%) impress in market down -23.6%
