Switzerland July 2020: Skoda (+25.6%), Renault (+44.3%), Peugeot (+32.3%) defy market down -11.3%
Skoda sales soar 25.6% in a market down -11.3%.
New car sales in Switzerland are stuck in double-digit decline in July at -11.3% to 22.641 units, a marginal improvement on June (-13.8%) leading to a year-to-date tally down -31.1% to 125.842. 4WD sales (-15%) fall faster than the market ato 10.665 units and 47.1% share vs. 49.2% a year ago while diesel volumes (-11.7%) are in line with overall sales at 5.756 and 25.4% share vs. 25.5%. Alternatively fuelled vehicle sales on the other hand surge 62.3% to 4.915 and 21.7% share vs. 11.9% in July 2019 and up 37.9% YTD to 27.209 and 21.6% share vs. 10.8% over the same period in 2019. These include HEV up 39.1% to 2.629 and 11.6% vs. 7.4%, PHEV up 330.7% to 1.219 and 5.4% vs. 1.1% and BEV up 34.8% to 1.004 and 4.4% vs. 2.9%.
In the brands ranking, Volkswagen (-7.4%) and Mercedes (-1.1%) both hold very well to top the charts at 12.3% and 9.3% share respectively but it’s Skoda (+25.6%) that scores the most impressive result in the Top 5, repeating at #3 overall. Meanwhile Audi (-15.4%) and BMW (-14.2%) underperform while Renault (+44.3%), Peugeot (+32.3%) and Volvo (+20.3%) also post fantastic scores in the remainder of the Top 10. Further down, Porsche (+49.7%), Ferrari (+34%), Kia (+17.2%), Lamborghini (+12.5%) and Lotus (+11.1%) impress but Tesla (-81.6%), Jaguar (-68.9%), Smart (-67.2%), Citroen (-57.1%), Opel (-51.8%), Subaru (-47.5%), Land Rover (-39.2%), Alfa Romeo (-37.4%) and Dacia (-33.2%) implode.
Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (+2.2%) cements its domination at 2.8%, distancing a string of five high-performing models: the Audi Q3 (+53.4%), Skoda Kodiaq (+47.7%), Karoq (+44.3%), VW T6 (+25.5%) and Golf (+14.5%). As a result the VW Tiguan (-51.5%) is knocked down 5 spots from #2 in June to #7 this month. The BMW X1 (+23%) and Fiat 500 (+8%) also stun in the remainder of the Top 10, as do the Renault Clio (+293.7%), Captur (+184.4%), Ford Kuga (+76.1%), Volvo XC60 (+29.1%) and XC40 (+11%) further down. The Mazda CX-30 (#36), Ford Puma (#46), Skoda Kamiq (#62) and Mercedes GLB (#93) top recent launches (<12 months).
