Switzerland June 2020: Audi (+3.6%), Mercedes (+1.9%) help slow fall to -13.8%

The Audi Q3 shoots up 56% to #5 in June.

The Swiss new car market drastically slows down its fall in June, going from -50.5% last month to -13.8% and 24.477 units. The year-to-date tally is now down -34.3% to 103.201. However alternatively fuelled vehicles shoot up 65.1% year-on-year in June to 5.434 units and 22.3% share vs. 11.6% a year ago and are up 33.5% YTD to 22.294 and 21.6% share vs. 10.6% over the same period in 2019. Meanwhile diesel registrations freefall -30.8% to 5.215 and 21.3% share vs. 26.5% in June 2019 and are off -44.1% to 23.940 and 23.2% share YTD vs. 27.2% over H1 2019. 4×4 sales roughly follow the market at -14.3% to 11.913 unites and 48.7% vs. 49% and -33% so far in 2020 to 53.106 and 51.5% share vs. 50.4%.

Volkswagen (-8.3%) reclaims the top spot off Mercedes (+1.9%) even though the latter posts one of only three year-on-year gains in the Top 13 alongside Audi (+3.6%) and Toyota (+0.5%). Skoda (-1.2%) and BMW (-8%) ensure the Top 5 brands all outpace the market, Ford (-0.3%), Volvo (-1.7%) and Seat (-8.9%) make it also 9 in the Top 10 while Renault (-13.5%) matches it. The naughty kids are all outside the Top 10 and include Opel (-53.2%), Peugeot (-47.3%), Fiat (-34.6%), Mazda (-29.7%), Citroen (-28.5%), Suzuki (-25.5%) and Hyundai (-21.7%). Lotus (+83.3%), Mini (+31.7%), Porsche (+31.1%), DS (+18.2%) and Lamborghini (+16.7%) impress.

Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (-17.8%) and VW Tiguan (-21.9%) confirm they are the favourite cars in the country even though the both fall faster than the market while the VW Golf (+18.2%) gets a boost to climb back up 5 spots on May to #3. 6 of the next 7 best-sellers post stratospheric year-on-year gain, let by tThe Mercedes GLE (+181.7%), Volvo XC40 (+108.9%), Audi Q3 (+56%), Mini Hatch (+46.5%) and VW Touran (+42.9%). In fact, only the Tesla Model 3 (-34.6%) is down. The Mercedes CLA (+303.2%) and Renault Zoe (+114.6%) also impress further down, while the Ford Puma (#40) becomes the most popular recent launch above the Skoda Kamiq (#46), Mercedes GLB (#67) and Mazda CX-30 (#70).
