Czech Republic July 2020: Skoda places 7 models in Top 8, Peugeot 2008 breaks record in worsening market (-9.4%)

The Peugeot 2008 breaks its ranking record in the Czech Republic.

After almost stabilising in June (-5.2%), the Czech new car market worsens again in July at -9.4% year-on-year to 19.770 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down -23.6% to 114.799. Homegrown behemoth Skoda (+6.3%) bucks the negative trend to hit a strong 38.6% share, leaving Hyundai (-43.8%) and Volkswagen (-22.4%) in the dust at 6.9% and 6.5% respectively. Mercedes (+47.5%) and Peugeot (+39.6%) are the two heroes of the Top 10 whereas all other brands are in negative, Renault (-2.2%), Kia (-6.1%) and Toyota (-9%) resisting best but Ford (-25%) and Dacia (-14.2%) struggling. Further down, Ssangyong (+1100%), DS (+150%), Porsche (+147.4%), Ferrari (+120%), Tesla (+90%), Subaru (+43.4%), Lexus (+29%) and Audi (+20%) stand out.

Skoda goes from a record 6 models in the June Top 6 to 5 in the July Top 5, with the Octavia (+17.1%) and Fabia (-10.7%) still holding the top 2 spots, but this time it’s the Superb (+120.1%) that surges 5 ranks on last month to land at #3 overall, distancing the Karoq (-4%) and Scala (+4.3%). The Hyundai i30 (-3.9%) slides up to #6 above the Skoda Kodiaq (-4.9%) and Kamiq (+1145.1%) meaning there are 7 Skodas in the July Top 8. The Peugeot 2008 (+106.1%) soars 16 spots on June to break its Czech ranking record at #9 (previous best #10 in Octover 2018 and September 2019). The Peugeot 208 (+150%), Renault Clio (+119.3%), Mercedes A-Class (+100%) and Hyundai Kona (+80.2%) also shine further down while the Kia Xceed tops recent launches at #57.
