Bulgaria March 2020: Dacia leads, Toyota (-2.3%), BMW (-7.5%) resist in market down -45.4%

Dacia is the best-selling carmaker in Bulgaria for the first time in 6 months.

A COVID-19 public health emergency was declared in Bulgaria on March 13 scheduled to initially last for one month, with only essential businesses remaining open and car dealerships closed. As a result the new car market slows down -45.4% year-on-year to 2.022 units and the YTD tally is now down -26.9% to 7.516. This is a slightly better result than other EU markets with similar lockdown timelines at this stage, mainly because of carry-over registrations of previous months’ orders. Dacia (-43.5%) climbs back to the brands top spot for the first time since last September, with the Top 4 best-sellers all fitting within 30 sales: Skoda (-24.2%), Renault (-47.1%) and Toyota (-2.3%) are into and all above 10% share. BMW (-7.5%), Peugeot (-29.4%) and Kia (-33.3%) also resist in the remainder of the Top 10.
