Denmark February 2020: New Corsa (+259.8%) lifts Opel up 64.5% in market down -19.5%

The Corsa surges 259.8% in February, lifting Opel up 64.5%.

New car sales in Denmark sink another -19.5% year-on-year in February to just 15.005 units, leading to a year-to-date tally down a steep -15.7% to 33.676. Brand leader Volkswagen (-28%) falls even faster than the market but manages to hold onto the top spot at 12.7% share vs. 9.3% for #2 Toyota (-0.9%) almost stable in a dwindling market. The rest of the Top 5 is in dire straits: Peugeot (-22.9%), Citroen (-36.5%) and Skoda (-43.4%) all lose more ground than the market. In contrast Opel (+64.5%) blissfully ignores the surrounding gloom and is one of a handful of spectacular gainers inside the Top 25 alongside Mitsubishi (+306.5%), DS (+126.9%), Mini (+71.7%) and BMW (+68.9%).

Model-wise, the Toyota Yaris (-10%) is up 6 spots on January to snap the pole position off the Peugeot 208 (+1.3%) for just one unit, with the Nissan Qashqai (-30.6%) only 5 sales below. The Opel Corsa (+259.8%) is responsible for the brand’s lift this month, itself leaping from #37 in January to #5. There are no further year-on-year gainers in the Top 10, with the Toyota Aygo (-0.3%) resisting best. The VW T-Cross (#6) is the most popular recent launch ahead of the Toyota Corolla (#15), Skoda Kamiq (#31), Scala (#60) and Ford Puma (#63).
