Colombia January 2020: Chevrolet scores first 1-2 in over 3 years, Captiva in Top 25 in market up 15.4%

The new generation Chevrolet Onix hasn’t reached Colombian shores yet.

New vehicle sales in Colombia start the year on a high, up 15.4% in January to 18.427 units. Renault (+24.3%) easily outpaces the market to sign an 11th consecutive monthly win at 21.3% share, distancing its archenemy Chevrolet (+13.4%) at 19.5%. Nissan (+8.6%) and Mazda (+3.4%) underperform just below while Kia (+23.7%) shines but is down two spots on December to #5. Mercedes (+40.8%), Toyota (+23.9%), Volkswagen (+17%) and Suzuki (+15.9%) also beat the market in the remainder of the Top 10. Further down, Seat (+400%), Citroen (+280%), JMC (+109.7%), BMW (+96.4%) and Peugeot (+40.9%) are among the best performers.

Model-wise, the Chevrolet Onix (+94.3%) clocks in a second consecutive month at #1 and is followed by the Chevrolet Beat (+87.5%) which means Chevrolet scores its first 1-2 in Colombia in over 3 years. Five Renaults follow, led by the Sandero Stepway (-7.3%), Sandero (stable) and Duster (+5.7%) while the Kwid falls down to #6 due to stock availability issues. The Nissan Versa (+109.8%), Mazda CX-5 (+86.6%), Renault Duster Oroch (+71.3%), Kia Rio (+57.8%), Kia Sportage (+49.2%), Ford Ecosport (+32.7%) and Kia Picanto (+31.9%) also impress just as the Chevrolet Captiva (aka Baojun 530) breaks into the Colombian Top 30 for the first time for this generation.
