Colombia March 2019: Kwid lands, lifts Renault to #1 YTD in market up 3.1%

The Renault Kwid has landed in Colombia.

New vehicle sales in Colombia are up for the 2nd straight month in March at +3.1% to 20.184 units, tilting the YTD tally into positive territory at +0.5% to 54.635. Renault (+3.7%) knocks Chevrolet (-1.1%) down to score its 5th win in the past 7 months at 19.9% share vs. 18.9% for the American brand, also snatching the YTD lead at 19.4% vs. 19.1%. Below Nissan (+0.2%), Mazda (+13.1%) posts the only double-digit gain in the Top 8, with Ford (+7.9%) also strong, but it’s Honda (+48.8%), Hino (+45.1%), Suzuki (+36.8%) and Jeep (+31.8%) that score the largest gains in the Top 20, followed by Mitsubishi (+17.5%), Foton (+15.3%) and Subaru (+13.3%). Further down, JMC (+81.1%), Changan (+65.7%), Mini (+38.2%) and Citroen (+24.3%) are also very impressive.

Model-wise, Renault cements its newfound YTD leadership by monopolising the Top 2 with the Sandero (-4.9%) and Duster (+37.6%) plus the Logan (-22.6%) at #5, with the Chevrolet Onix (+97.4%) and Spark (-26.3%) in between. The Mazda2 (+71.5%), Ford Ecosport (+60.3%) and Nissan Frontier (+31%) excel, but the hero of the month – and the nameplate that ultimately pushes Renault to #1 is the new Kwid, promisingly landing directly inside the Top 20 at #18 with 1.4% share.
