Switzerland September 2019: Mercedes stays #1, Tesla Model 3 up to #2, Opel Crossland X on podium

The Opel Crossland X secures its first podium finish in Switzerland.

New car sales in Switzerland are back up 18.7% year-on-year in September to 24.219 on weak post-WLTP year-ago volumes, tilting the year-to-date tally back into positive territory at +0.4% to 226.310 units. 4×4 sales follow the market at +17.9% to 12.171 and 50.3% share vs. 50.1% YTD and EVs shoot up 187.6% to 1.530 and 6.3% vs. 2.6% a year ago. Mercedes (+15.4%) manages to hold onto the brands pole position for the 2nd month in a row above Volkswagen (+13.9%) with Skoda (+66.1%), BMW (+18.4%) and Opel (+35.1%) in tow. Seat (+96.4%) also shines at #8 but it’s Tesla (+203.6%) that posts the largest gain in the Top 35, leaping up 17 spots on August to score its 2nd ever Swiss Top 10 finish after last March (#8) at #10. Dodge (+236.4%), Lamborghini (+220%), Ferrari (+158.8%), Honda (+150.3%), Cadillac (+114.3%), Porsche (+95.3%), Citroen (+87.3%), Land Rover (+46.5%) and Dacia (+34.7%) also impress further down.

Model-wise, the Skoda Octavia (+31.6%) remains the best-seller in the country, followed this time by the Tesla Model 3 up 52 spots on August to #2. The Opel Crossland X (+439.1%) shoots up 55 ranks on last month to snatch its first ever Swiss podium finish at #3. The Skoda Kodiaq (+610.5%), Seat Ateca (+203.4%), Skoda Karoq (+161.4%), Citroen C3 (+144.4%), Dacia Duster (+109.4%), BMW X3 (+95.3%), Hyundai Kona (+76.3%) and Mercedes A-Class (+49%) also make themselves noticed in the Top 20.
